How to Relieve Stress by Listening to Music
My favorite of all the stress relievers is listening to music! No matter what I have done in my life since the age of three, I have always had a soundtrack playing along side.
One of the Greatest Stress Relievers on the Planet
Music affects us physiologically in many beneficial and youth enhancing ways. Research shows that music can change heart rates, lower blood pressure naturally, body temperature, and respiration rate.
Emotionally, music and health can evoke and release repressed emotions. It can even open the door spiritually. The vast majority of spiritual traditions around the world involve some sort of music.
From tapping the foot to getting up for a boogie, music stimulates conscious and unconscious movements.
The powerful, scientifically proven release of endorphins from listening to music is one of the most powerful stress relievers, which is the cornerstone of any antiaging health program.
How to Relieve Stress with Music
Natural Pain Relief no Side Effects
Evidence indicates that listening to music can be a potent analgesic and lower blood pressure naturally. One study involved 60 male and female patients who suffered from chronic pain disorders. They were divided into three groups. One group listened to music of their own choice for an hour per day; a second listened to alternative health healing music prescribed by the researchers for an hour each day; a third group spent an hour each day sitting quietly, but listening to no music. All patients kept diaries describing changes if any, none were on pain medication.
The groups listening to music experienced as much as a 21 percent decline in pain compared to the one to two percent drop in discomfort experienced by patients who did not listen to music. They also claimed it was one of the most powerful stress relievers.
According to researchers, there are a number of theories about music and health, and why it can relieve pain. One theory is that this release of endorphins causes pain relief and can lower blood pressure naturally. Another theory is that music is the most powerful of all stress relievers, and promotes relaxation and redirects the attention away from discomfort.
Tunes are Stress Relievers
Listening to music is the one activity that I do now in exactly the same way as I always have. Music still calls me to get up and dance and play the way I did when I was four. I still get stupidly excited when I hear a really good song that moves me…and I can listen to it over and over again. For me, it definitely can lower blood pressure naturally.
Finding a new favorite song is one of the best feelings in the universe. If you are in need of a new song to love, ask your friends, co workers, parents, or children what they are listening to. Make a mix CD of your favorite tracks to exchange with other people.
There is so much music out there to explore as one of the amazing stress relievers.
