The Incredible Benefits of Wheatgrass
Wednesday, July 30th, 2008My mom is currently going through her second round of chemotherapy. She has been so positive throughout the whole process, but as she loved her new hair that was beginning to grow back, and now it is gone again and the whole thing is becoming a huge drag. I feel so sad thinking about it because I knew she was hoping it wouldn’t fall out this time.
So I guess the only way for me to deal with this sadness, apart from be there for her, is to find ways to help her feel better. I already talked to her about making raw chocolate, which I hope will not only cheer her up because it is so delicious, but also because it has so many health promoting nutrients.
In my search today I found a study which showed how much wheat grass can help to combat the effects of chemotherapy. The study was published in Nutrition and Cancer 2007.
Bone marrow (where new blood cells are made) damage caused by chemotherapy can become life threatening. White blood cell count and red blood cell count can become abnormally low. There are medications to help build the blood cell count, but they come with negative side effects and increased costs.
It was found that drinking the green healing juice helped produce healthier blood levels while receiving the chemotherapy, and thus decreasing the need for blood building medications. Wheatgrass juice was found to not diminish effectiveness of chemotherapy.
I definitely am going to recommend that my mom takes wheat grass. And in my research, I came up with another load of benefits that one can gain from indulging in this potent super food.
1. Wheatgrass Juice is one of the best sources of living chlorophyll available. Chlorophyll is to plants as oxygen is to us, and the more we consume, the greater our health. Chlorophyll ensures that the unwanted invaders stay out of our bodies, and the good guys stay safe. It is probably the most healing compound on the planet.
2. Wheatgrass only takes minutes to digest, and uses up very little body energy.
3. Chlorophyll (wheatgrass) rebuilds the bloodstream.

5. Chlorophyll can be extracted from many plants, but wheatgrass is particularly strong because it has been found to have over 100 elements needed by man. If grown in organic soil, it absorbs 92 of the known 102 minerals from the soil.
6. Chlorophyll gets into the tissues, refines them and rebuilds them.
7. Wheatgrass is highly detoxifying and washes drug deposits from the body.
8. Chlorophyll balances blood sugar levels.
9. Promotes healthy teeth and prevents tooth decay.
10. Prevents grey hair.
11. Improves digestion.
12. Dr. Birscher, a research scientist, called chlorophyll “concentrated sun power.” He said, “Chlorophyll increases the function of the heart, affects the vascular system, the intestines, the uterus, and the lungs.”
13. In the American Journal of Surgery (1940), Benjamin Gruskin, M.D. recommends chlorophyll for its antiseptic benefits. The article suggests the following clinical uses for chlorophyll:
· to clear up foul smelling odors,
· neutralize Strep infections,
· heal wounds,
· hasten skin grafting,
· cure chronic sinusitis,
· overcome chronic inner-ear inflammation and infection,
· reduce varicose veins and heal leg ulcers,
· eliminate impetigo and other scabby eruptions,
· heal rectal sores,
· deal with parasitic vaginal infections,
· Wheatgrass Juice cures acne and even helps to remove scars after it has been ingested for seven to eight months.
Best of all, wheatgrass helps us to feel vibrant and healthy!
