Defy Age Naturally

Today I went to one of my favourite cafes in Brighton called Iydea with Christopher and randomly bumped into our cool Shamanic friends. I ordered a fresh cucumber celery and apple juice which was near divinity. I have recently heard and read a lot about the benefits of cucumber juice, so I decided that today would be an excellent day to investigate them further in celebration of my morning juice.

My initial interest in natural health care was a result of acne and horrible skin. I spent many years slowly but surely sorting out my skin. From food intolerances (mainly dairy) to switching to totally natural and organic beauty products, zinc deficiency to hormone issues, I have seriously worked on my skin. These days I get the very occasional spot and am very happy with my skin.

In addition to everything else I have done, I think that my lifelong love of cucumbers has probably had an incredibly positive effect on my skin. Cucumber is possible the world’s most powerful diuretic so it is highly detoxifying and promotes a healthy kidney and bladder.

As cucumber and the skin share the same level of hydrogen, they can mask problem areas including puffiness around the eyes. They help in soothing and softening the skin. The cleansing properties leave the skin balanced and supple.

Coconut oil seems to be an integral part of my life these days. I am constantly making delicious cakes and using it as a delicious substitute for butter (read more about my favorite cake!)

But more than simply using this super food to make my food more delectable, I am also regularly using it as a moisturizer…and with amazing results!

Coconut oil has been used since the beginning of time for its beautifying properties. Women in countries where coconuts grow (definitely not here in England…) have been rubbing coconut butter on their skin to both smooth and protect.

Naturally Protective

Most skin creams on the market actually do more harm than good because they are full of chemicals that may make your skin look nice in the short term, but will cause damage long term. Coconut oil is nature’s finest moisturizer, full of goodness that will truly nourish and make your skin beautiful long term.

Coconut oil is packed with natural antioxidants and is especially useful in fighting free-radicals, as it is unrefined and hasn’t been stripped of any of its natural components through the refining process. These protect the skin from the environment and other toxins that cause damage and aging. It is the ultimate anti wrinkle cream.

Truly PH Balancing

I have heard many commercials claiming their products balance the PH of the skin. Personally, I don’t believe that anything that is not completely natural will balance our PH. We all know now that ready made meals and man made chemicals are highly acidic when we eat them. Only pure organic fruits and vegetables will help us become more alkaline and balance our PH internally. Why on earth would we believe that what we put on our skin is any different?

Another thing I love about coconut oil is the fact that although it is rich and creamy, it gets absorbed by the skin very quickly, so my skin doesn’t feel greasy for very long, as it does with many other natural and organic skin creams and potions. This is because the small molecular structure of coconut oil allows for easy absorption through the skin, giving it a soft, smooth texture.  Coconut oil penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin and strengthens the underlying tissues.

Another benefit of coconut oil’s small structure is that it is absorbed into the skin and into the cell structure of the connective tissues, limiting the damage excessive sun exposure can cause. Coconut oil is actually considered a natural sun screen! Since more and more studies are showing that sunscreen is highly toxic, we need to move forward in looking for new ways to protect our skin!

Coconut oil not oil smoothes and protects, it also repairs the skin. It aids in removing the outer layer of dead skin cells, making the skin smoother. The skin becomes more evenly textured with a healthy glow. 

Coconut oil is also fabulous for people who suffer with dry skin, eczema and psoriasis. I have never seen a product given by a dermatologist that was actually good for the skin. Coconut oil is toxin free and healing.

Everything in Nature

And for me, I always believe without fail that nature provides everything that we need. Most people now recognize that there is absolutely nothing that man can do to our food without ruining it. Natural, organic, raw food grown in the way that is was before we humans walked the planet is better than anything we can create or make, even with all of our technology. 

The very same goes for what we put onto our skin. Everything that we need for gorgeous skin can be found in nature, and coconut oil is perhaps the most perfect ingredient available!
