A Holistic Guide to Beating Stress
Living in modern life means that we all have to deal with stress. Sometimes stress can be a positive force in our lives because it motivates us. However, sometimes stress can really get us down. It is essential that we have tools in our lives so that we can cope with stress and the general ups and downs of life.
So how can we learn to cope with stress? Here are a few tools to help you deal with life in a more balanced and positive way.
Diet
There are certain foods that cause the body a lot of stress. These can include sugar, wheat and caffeine, but there are many others. Some people find that their whole life changes when they give up these foods. Anxiety and even panic attacks can disappear. A diet rich in nutritious food is the most stress free diet there is.
Nutrients
* B complex balances the adrenal glands, which are also responsible for dealing with stress. * Magnesium calms the body and releases anxiety. It is a naturally relaxing mineral, and is also one of the most common nutritional deficiencies.
* Essential fatty acid deficiency can cause depression and anxiety. In order for balanced emotional health, the body requires fatty acids. Hemp seeds, chia seeds and wild Alaskan salmon are some of the best sources.
* Chromium is a mineral which balances blood sugar levels. When blood sugars are fluctuating very low and high, it can cause the mind to also fluctuate very low and high. Chromium helps to bring physical and mental harmony.
Essential Oils
The power of smell can balance the brain and alleviate stress and anxiety. Many people find tremendous relaxation when using essential oils. Smelling the oils that suit you most can bring peace at work, in the bath, or best of all while receiving a massage can calm body and mind.
Tea
You may find that you are more able to relax after drinking yummy tea. Yesterday I was examining the tea section, and a bright pink box with the word love on it jumped out at me. It was a combination of Rose, Chamomile and Lavender. All of these are herbs are known to release stress and “warm the heart.” For me,drinking tea, whatever the brand is warming, relaxing and even meditative.
Exercise
Perhaps the most vital thing that we can all do is to do exercise. Exercise “lets off steam” so that the body isn’t stuck in a state of fight or flight. It releases natural endorphins and hormones that keep us positive and healthy.
Yoga/Meditation
Meditation and yoga are a great way to relax and get your mind off of your problems. Focusing on the body and breath will offer you a little holiday from being immersed in emotional upset. It will help you to disengage from your thoughts and emotions rather than seeing them as who you are. They help people to get more deeply in touch with their true self that is beyond the tensions of daily life.
